No Lights in the Underground Tunnels
Re: Epping Chatswood Rail Line lighting troubles
The reference to no lights at all in the London tube reminds me that that is the metro I think of when I talk about the rat in the drain syndrome. If you have any claustrophobic tendencies, in the London tube you feel like you've been packed into one of those vacuum tubes they use in supermarkets to send the cash upstairs. Sensory deprivation and a feeling of lack of escape opportunities are not a desirable adjunct to a good PT experience! I agree with M's example of the typical European metro tunnels that have a bit of space around the train and enough occasional lights to reduce the blackout effect. ECRL situation is ridiculous on the other hand.
A couple of days ago had to fight off our well-meaning Vienna host's efforts to pack us into the underground for a day in the city - because, as a tourist, I wanted to SEE the cityscape as it passed the windows! So as soon as his car disappeared around the corner at the station drop-off we turned around and headed for the tram. Way to go!
Cheers!
