The campaign is off and running

The 'Stop the metro madness' campaign officially kicked off this morning. I was handing out the newspaper at Parramatta station with other EcoTransiters and I can report that we got an entirely positive response ... except for an officious CityRail manager who threatened trouble and directed our people onto Westfield turf where the Westfield security people tried to herd them back onto CityRail property. In the end they just stood on the dividing line ... which seemed to satisfy both sides.

Lots of people asked for a few copies and the usual description of the CBD Metro was "crazy" or "mad" or "nuts".

I personally came across three people who had got the paper at Mt Druitt and thanked us for our effort.

I worked at Parramatta until 6 years ago and I have to say I was astounded by the growth in commuters coming through the station.

later did an interview with Dan Mullins at 2GB. Dan thought the CBD Metro was stone-crazy too.

When I got a look at the Sydney Morning Herald I found that Fred Hilmer from UNSW was saying that if there was going to be a metro-style line it ought to go to UNSW from the CBD, not Rozelle. Interesting. That's one of the metro lines that WOULD make sense and it's part of Dr Garry Glazebrook's 30 year plan. Rees' CBD proposal would actually block off the possibility of that line, for reasons you can explore in our paper.

If you didn't get it on the train, download it and have a read.
